SSTV video in Martin 1 format received in NJ from the International Space Station on Sunday October 12, 2008. This image was received on a frequency of 145.800 MHz, decoded using QSSTV software, and shows an image of ISS Expedition 17 Commander, Sergei Volkov. Several signal fades due to polarization changes occurred during reception of this image.

Audio recording and image dissection was performed using Linux-based software of my own design. MPEG encoding was performed using MEncoder.

  • 2 words. Bad-ass.

  • Cool, I could decode it in its entirety by putting a headphone earpiece on a laptop microphone.

  • how do you guys get such Clear imagery

  • For me, MMSSTV just stopped going at 0:33. Too much background noise. But, hey, this is amateur radio here. Always gonna be some static, right?

  • @svofski I did it on an iPad!

  • @svofski me to

  • @pointblancstudio same =)

  • sstv transmits picture not video

  • I was decoding this as I watched

  • @davemckiernan I think they also recorded the NTSC footage frame by frame as SSTV on reel to reel tape (videotape was too expensive then), to get a higher-quality recording, but I'm not sure....
