The name of the band "Bena mayo" means the main vein. This is the principal vein stretching from the African continent to the Caribbean and cultivating our culture, African identity, flavor, knowledge, power, heritage, inspiration and spirituality. This band plays curacaoen folk music in its purest form but in a very modern, uplifting and jazzy way using traditional instruments as well as modern ones.

In This video we play a rhythm called tambu this is our most authentic music form that was oppressed because of its power to connect and free peoples mind. Tambu is usually played in time signature of 6/8 or 12/8 depending on how you write it. This tambu is in odd time partially 7/4 and ¾ it is called instrumento ta papia, Meaning instruments are talking.
