Just a few shots at different ranges and stops. This zoom is pretty good with it wide angle of view range (as a 28-216mm on a FF Camera), but you have to stop it down between f5.6 and f8.0 to get the best results. Otherwise it can produce unsharp corners (especially at 18 mm wide open). The sweet spot is around 35mm with best performance in terms of center and corner sharpness. At 135mm you get the best results with f8.

So, for every day usage I´m satisfied and would recommend it, but the emphasis is placed on "day". At 18mm there is vignetting wide open, barrel distortion and noticeable chromatic aberration. Vignetting can be reduced by stopping down a stop and is eliminated at f8.

Best thing is the image stabilisation (Canon says up to 4 stops) and the AF function. Every clip was made with AF before shooting.

All untouched (no sharpness or cc in post). Just slomos in ae and scaled down to 720p24 for vimeo

Iso between 200 and 1250
1080p24
1/50

Picture Style: Neutral
Sharpness +4
Contrast -2
Saturation -1
Color Tone -1

  • i this lens better than the 18-55mm & 55-250mm ?

  • @C7D25

Sorry, I don´t own both of them...

  • How did you make such a dams smooth panning?

  • @MrSonnenschein

    With a track slider...

  • Shots look great, thinking about getting the 7D with the same lens since it's a reasonable price but was wondering how well it works in low light. What do you think?

  • @whyknuckifyoubuck

I didn´t test it out. But I suppose for lowlight shots it isn´t the right glas - its too slow. But if you buy it give it a go and let me know about your results...

  • this is what I've found out when I took photos with it, during 40mm to 70mm the image is very distorted around the edges, it blurs out and it's really ugly. But overall i love this lens

  • Great vid... Whats the name of this song, good sir?

  • @C7D25 It is better than the 18-55, but im unsure on the 55-250

  • What's the name of this song?
