Isaac is a ten year old black belt with skills. He competes in the 9-10 yr. old division, but he had to fight up two divisions at the small "Sidekick Tournament" near Boston. As you can see, my son Isaac Jin Solstein, did pretty well.

And of course, Kelsey and Emily aren't really giants, but skilled practitioners form RIver's Edge Karate in Pennsville, NJ. Kyo Sa David Boucher runs a great program there, and hosts the outstanding "South Jersey Moo Duk Kwan Festival."

As this is the first karate video we are posting, it is only appropriate to acknowledge Isaac's Master, Joe Poppo, Sa Bom Nim, of the Moo Duk Kwan Academy in Liberty, NY. Master Poppo is a tremendous martial artist and an inspiring teacher. His students are fiercely loyal to him for good reasons, and Isaac is proudly among them.

  • He's got great technique, but he keeps doing a side kick. He's got to vary it up. Even if they're bigger than him, he should follow up with some punches (and block if he has to). He should also try to go straight in from when the judge says "go" instead of waiting for an opening later.

Clearly the kid's got skills, though. Good luck in The Last Airbender!

  • Yes, too many side kicks, but it's an old video already, from the beginning of the season. If you look at the other sparring vids, you'll see Isaac Jin has a few other moves, and we are working hard on his combinations, punches and using his left leg more.

  • Emily is not the white side, obviously she is red. Sorry about that.

  • Tell him Good Luck on the Airbender movie!

  • Even Black Belts Do Side Kicks A Lot Though Because It's The Most Effective From What My Master Told Me & From What I've Seen. Seems To Me The Girl/Boy Didn't Really Fight Because, Well, It Was A Kid. I Mean Seriously 3 Points In A Row, Same Area, SAME KICK? Or Maybe They Just Suck...Really Bad. Kid Seems Talented Nonetheless, Most Little Kids Don't Really Know What Their Doing.
