A video blog reviewing the Shure X2u signal adaptor, which bypasses the need for a mixing desk, amplifier and other professional sound equipment and allows you to use an XLR-based mic with your computer by converting the output into USB.

In this video I use my Shure SM58 with the X2u.

  • I don't know if you're getting paid to do this, but you don't need all that equipment to get the same or more functions as this Shure gadget. You can get an external professional grade sound cards in the 100 to 130 euro price range. If you only need 1 or 2 inputs. Don't get me wrong it's a handy gadget at a good price point, but don't oversell it.

  • Sorry Dave this gadget is a gimmick, the reason we use good sound cards and audio interfaces is to deal with the need to record multiple inputs at once without any latency. In my experience USB and audio recording don't mix well, all my best audio gear is connected via Firewire. This might be a handy gadget for some spotty bored loner sitting in their bedroom recording reverb soaked karaoke versions of Britney Spears but that's about it.
