This is a topic I've wanted to cover for a very long time as it seems neither consumers nor manufacturers really understand how to optimize a PC for gaming. This goes for desktops as well as notebooks. Here at NCIX we understand that gaming is all about the graphics, but without hard numbers, it's difficult to prove. Behold.

It should be noted that the Core i7 will destroy the Core i5 in things like video editing or 3D rendering, but these things are not "gaming"...

  • @LinusTechTips, you forgot Alienware ^^

  • gaming laptops are too expensive these days, i prefer to just use an external graphics card, cant wait till mine arrives

  • Case in point, don't trust YouTube comments for an important purchasing decision. :p Do your research, ignore the bias people, and go with something that you like and feel comfortable with.

  • @Marveh Love when the experts come out n try to debate the facts lol

  • Today's yepisode

  • @DagmarSLNY My reasoning was this:

    The i5 2500k costs $220 for 3.3ghz while the i7 2600k costs $320 for 3.4ghz.

Even the newest games like Skyrim limit you to a max of 3 cores. So you're paying $100 for a 0.1ghz performance increase...

\I would guess the i7 has higher temps than the i5 because of the additional cores, too, but that's just speculation.

For a gamer like myself, the i5 is the best choice. That isn't to say the i7 isn't a good choice if you can afford it, though.

  • i have an xps 17 with a i7 quad-core (i7-2720qm) and 8gbs of ram. however it only has a nvidia gt555m. the gpu is a massive bottleneck so i totally agree that its better to go for the high end gpu

  • @BeatsByWeight totally wrong the limit the human eye can see is closer to 1000 'frames' per second.however eyes are obviously more complex than dsplays so theres more than one unit for how eyes perceive 'fps' to do with light and other complex things that i admit dont really understand. to see something clearly it has to be 24+ but its not the limit.
