Onboard Yas Marina Raed Raffii V8 Supercars ME - Round 4, Race 2, Part 1 [720p]

This is race 2, part 1. Race 1 ended early for Raed with gearbox problems, these had also put pay to any fast laps in quali so Raed was starting from the back of the grid for both races.

Race 2 ended the same way with Raed retiring by mid-distance with similar gearbox issues but not before we got some great onboard footage. Even on lap 1 the gearbox issues had resurfaced and Raed was struggling, having to take his time on upshifts and never knowing if a diwnshift would "take" or not. This led to a huge spin by the Hotel complex.

JUst prior to this Raed had hit Mohammed Al Falasi in the rear sending the UAE driver into a spin. This was not deliberate as Raed was having trouble with downshifts, also Al Falasi had been slowed by a sideways Abdulaziz Al-Yaeesh.

For this indescretion he was given a drive-through penalty which is where part 1 ends. Watch out for Part 2 soon which shows the gearbox issues getting worse and eventually Raed having to retire. Also onboards coming from Abdulaziz Al-Yaeesh who scored an impressive 2nd and a 3rd palce in the event.

As you can see the track was very slippy and even the GP2s had problems. A Great win from Oliver Turvey in Race 1 was topped (IMO) by an awesome performance from Davide Valsecchi in Race 2 and an equally impressive one from GP2 newcomer Jules Bianchi who made some aweseome overtaking moves.

@tjbayliss - oops, yes, bit unfortunate, Raed had not noticed that there was a 3 car jam going into the hairpin as Aziz (green) car had got major oversteer on the previous corner, so everyone slowed .... except Raed .. he was also suffering with a gearshift issue and despite pushing the level (seq shift) it didnt change down which would have slowed the car more .. he did apoplogise straight after the race.

he was having a shifting problem trying to catch that high gear so he hits the limiter and skips that gear

all he has to do is back off accelerator when shifting with sequential thats how we aussies do it

disco - thanks for the offer and would have loved to but will be in Bahrain, fly out later today. The V8 guys are racing there and there are also some single-seaters racing as support, Formula 1 I think it's called, not as exciting but it fills the day out a bit :)

michael - it's a very tough corner in the V8s as well as it's slightly off camber and over a rise, so you cant go full power. Proper way is back off for the right-hander, hold it tight left and get back onto SOME power for the right-hander, problem is as you will see, if the driver behind doesn't back off you end up with contact and it's a very high-speed section. It's all part of the challenge though. I think it makes quite a good race track for V8s and such but no real passing chances for F1
