While posting my footage recorded at Altoona Railfest in October 2004, I started thinking about how nice it would be to visit the area again in the same time of year, but closer to the fall color peak - and this time, armed with an HD camera. With a long Columbus Day weekend at my disposal, I did just that on October 11-12, 2008.
Lots of other people had the same ideas as I did about enjoying the weekend. Even before the gates to the parking lot at Horseshoe opened there were at least 10 cars parked outside and the crowds kept right on coming as the day progressed.
The opening action on this trip was provided in understated fashion by the 2 pairs of SD40-2 helpers seen here; 3349 and 3352 led the way, followed by 3372 and 3342.
Repost of an earlier clip, now in HD.
