I, Robert Smith, show you every step I take to building a custom made solar panel from scratch. I explain in detail about each item I use and why to use it, so the video is fairly long.

I will be hosting the majority of the video on my own server so you can view it all in one take. It will take time to edit the video, but the more of you that subscribe to the video, the faster I'll try to get it out to you guys as it just shows that people are interested and appreciate what I'm doing, as I'm providing this video for free unlike some videos you see on YouTube.

The method I described in this video is just one way to go about it, however, there are many ways you can build a custom solar panel. Some use aluminum or plastic frames, but I found for a beginner, working with wood would probably be easier and cheaper.

Overall, building a solar panel can be fun, but there are many factors that play into building a solar panel, and I as well still have an extreme amount to still learn about it.

So I hope that for those wanting to learn more about solar energy and wanting to take the adventure of building their own solar panel will find this video very useful.

To watch to full video just video, just visit: http://www.solartechtown.com

Again the video is fairly large, so to prevent from having to put 6 or 7 parts on youtube in 10 minute sections, I'm just going to host in on my server.

If you all have ANY questions, feel free to leave a comment under the video.

Thanks guys!

  • Id consider sticking a shingle piece underneath the shingle above the L Bracket and lap it over the bracket part on the roof just so water has a run off over the bracket rather then a place to pool and later run down the screw holes.

Those shingles will expand and contract between winter and summer and maybe open up the screw holes just enough to be annoying.

  • Nice job Robert. your are very detailed and thank you for all that you have done to show us.

  • shame its not sealed least it still works

  • 7:58 did he say he used 20-22 guage wires?

  • I wonder if placing some silicon grain packets in the panel would help with moister control?

  • you don't have to find the stud on the roof, the roof under the singles is ply, or ship wood, and would secure with more strength then you'd ever need, good job tho, have been watching all the videos, you should have put black tar under your l brackes before you screwed them into the roof to prevent water from leaking into your house

    keep up the good work

  • Thanks for the video.

For anyone else who might be checking this video out. // The comment below (an Ad actually) from "checksummemedchest" for a website where you can check out the "LT-MAGNET" device. Beware. The product is a complete scam. No, I am not a rep. of Big Oil ... geesh, How naive do these people think we are?!?

  • that is pressure treated 4"x4" post and those are trusses or rafters.... i would have used 2x4 and sink 3 1/2 inch screws into it. I'd run the wires somewhere else too.

  • nice videos man! i order my solar cells online and i got all the wood and class fro mthe garbage around the neighbor :D only bought the sealant

  • hi robert, im finking about following your videos step by step just as something to do in my spare time. i understand everything your saying and i understand the general theory of electricity and solar panels as i am currently an apprentice marine electrician and am studying electrical engineering in college. the only question i have to ask you is.. where did you mount your battery? within the shed? maybe the corner? lol write back if you get a chance. chears :D and good job on vids
