i agree with you but dont see why you point out ron paul, he is not the type that rules, he is trying to change the system by reducing the grip the government has over the people, but overall i agree with you.

V. interesting video, esp. your comments on teaching.
I teach an undergrad course at my local Uni. I recently discovered voluntaryist philosophy, and I feel I ought to give up my public-sector job on principle ... only I'm now in the fortunate position of being able to question orthodox readings of texts and introduce anti-statist ideas to a willing audience through our discussions in the classroom.
I'm curious to know what you would do if you found yourself in this dilemma.

The funny thing is that YOU are the one who said wars are un-profitable. And yet you imagine that a DRO would be willing to go to war with another DRO in order to get more "customers", even if that DRO can't force the people to remain its customers... How would a DRO profit from taking that kind of incredibly expensive and risky undertaking when it has no guarantee that the "freed" customers will become its new customers? I'm sorry but it just doesn't make any logical sense.
-
@Hostile "If a DRO is being aggressive, it's customers will stop paying and hire other DRO's to defend them from it."
And yet people don't just stop paying the govt and start paying people to protect them from the government... I wonder why... Maybe because organizations that don't need your permission to collect taxes tend to be a whole lot stronger then ones who play by the rules of morality. I wish it weren't true, but we can't ignore its truth just because its ugly.
-
@Hostile "Any DRO that attempted to demand payment would immediately lose all business, all access to business partners, etc."
And why would these businesses not be intimidated by the force of the DRO/govt as they are today? You're basically saying that everyone will just boycott the government. And sure, that's possible, but it's never done because it isn't worth getting killed over for most people. Fear of violence WORKS, you can't just make everyone immune to intimidation in your utopia!
-
"You jumped to the conclusion that Stefan doesn't believe DRO's can use force"
Then what stops them from becoming a government... Governments are those institutions which possess the most dominant use of force in a geographic area. If you allow a DRO to use force then nothing can stop it from using it aggressively because it IS the most dominant user of force in an area. Other DROS could fight it, but that would just be govts fighting govts as they do today.
Exelent Video.
Do you live in the US or in the Netherland?
