  • Not a mention of the great Bix Beiderbecke on cornet.

His solo is rather more accomplished than the vocal and is what helps to make this the best version of the tune on record.

  • @keeshond8 ,you're right,I usually include a photo of Bix+Cornet. He is sitting on top of the Goldkette Band bus(4th from left).

  • Thanks for sharing this . It is a great post.

  • Thanks again,Corrie.

  • @SatchmoSings ,If you compare what I recorded to recordings of the same tune by others,I've been told by most fans that my $20 school player playing the original 78 has superior sound to the $1,000 set-ups.But thanks for the comment.

  • @keeshond8 Bix was not on this recording. It was Nat Natoli, Andy Secrest and Sterling Bose on trumpet and Hoagy Carmichael on cornet.

  • 4rth Center the disc based upon where the grooves are, not the spindle hole.

5, Check pitch; you can use an inexpensive electronic keyboard for this.

Do all this and you'll be making great transfers with the best of them!!!

  • May I suggest several things.

    01.

First of all, turn down the voltage going to the pickup; 78s produce much more energy than Lps.

2ndly, Use a sytlus that is suited to the size of the groove; the industry didn't adopt standards this way until 1939.

3rd, Use an equalizer; the equalization curve for 78s is different than that of Lps.

  • Maybe, but he was definitely playing on this track.

  • By this time Bix was with Paul Whiteman

  • nice tune
