its because the katana looks kool and well what do you expect a swordman not in the nights use you think they should have used an axe instead or an ugly sword that would take to much of the screen, and at 1:41 they had a good reason to do it because it was just to fill out space and it was to show that Patty was in this game

That sword is called Compact sword and its simply the sword he starts out with. I guess they didn't want to spoil any of his weapons. But yeah, that sword is his first one.
