Not that I expect Christina to get any of these comments, but: If you want to do something about the death of "neighborhood culture", have you considered going into civil engineering? There's a whole movement called "New Urbanism" that has been fighting for the last ~25 years to change this. They're slowly, slowly making some changes, at least in urban and suburban areas. Public policies giving less favor and subsidy to car culture would help...
