This is the osprey full tilt vtol, it's one of the best aircraft I've ever flown. it takes off like a helicopter and then turns into an airplane in mid air then it can turn back into a heli and come in for a vertical landing.

in helicopter and airplane mode the left stick controls thrust and the right stick controls turning.
you also use the right stick to transition from hover to forward flight, moving it left and right turns the aircraft left and right and moving it up and down transitions you from a helicopter to an airplane.

It flies great in both helicopter and airplane mode. when you first lunch it, it hovers forward at a slow speed on its own, you control its thrust up and down and its turning, when you push the right stick forward it transitions form helicopter mode to airplane mode, the transition to airplane mode is quick, as soon as you push the stick forward it starts flying like an airplane.
When you pull the right stick back to transition back to helicopter mode, the wings slowly tilt up at the perfect speed so that you don't flip or stall, the aircraft will come to a hover after about 15 feet of slowing down.
their is only a split second during transition that the left right controls have no effect because it is switching from the tilting wing helicopter control system to the differential thrust airplane control mode.
The transition phase is like a dream, I've never seen anything like it

The transmitter runs on 8 AA batteries and recharges the aircraft in about 45 minutes it has roll and yaw trim and it is very precise. The range is a hundred yards or more, i never had any range or interference issues, another cool thing, the aircraft doesn't have a long trailing antenna, instead it has a tiny coper wire sticking about 2 inches out of the tail, it's almost unnoticeable.

the aircraft flies for 5 to 8 minutes and it's an amazing 5 to 8 minutes of flight switching back and forth from helicopter to airplane mode like you've always wanted to.

This is an aircraft that is definitely worth having in your collection, I hope AirHogs keeps making aircraft like this for years to come, I would love to see a pocket sized version of it in the future.

I was told by airhogs that it is a little touchy in airplane mode but that it is being addressed before they hit store shelves, I did notice it was a little sensitive in airplane mode but I thought it was a good thing in some ways, it helped me fight the winds and it made for quicker and more precise turns in emergencies.

all together It is a wonderful flight experience I can't say enough good stuff about this aircraft.
Thanks for watching rc 101 with the taoistflyer tune in for more fun aircraft videos

  • I don't understand why they discontinued this product so fast. I saw two in a Toys R Us a couple months ago, in a town about 3hrs away from my hometown, but didn't have the money to buy one at the time, and I've regretted it ever since.

  • @theimacman You can still find them online, it's one of those sad stories of a great invention with a slightly high price point and with low projected sales from walmart.

  • i just got one and i was wondering how easy is it to make it backflip?

  • @thomasguilleaume1996 It's hard, it's more of an accident then anything else.

  • Thanks for posting these videos. Between the Air Hogs Osprey and the Air Hogs Hawk Eye Blue Sky, which is better in speed and handling?

  • @KamenKami the osprey is MUCH better, the Blue Sky is pretty much like any airhogs plane, it can fly but it's nothing special, the osprey can turn quick and glide smooth, plus the hover feature is worthwhile, I've also been able to hold an 808 keychain camera with it, I have a video posted of it.

  • i want this but its like $120 on ebay

  • Nobody get this get yourself a real plane not a toy

  • @taoistflyer

Yeah, the price is just a tad too high to make it a no-brainer purchase. And, ugh, I hate how much control Walmart has over stuff like this. Having worked in the video game industry, I know how much it matters that Walmart sells your game. It's sad that Americans have given such a worthless company that kind of power over production of products in so many different areas.

  • Bad flyer.. and bad video
