Arvo Pärt (born 11 September 1935), The Beatitudes, Elora Festival Singers and Orchestra, Jurgen Petrenko, organ .
Composed in 1990, and revised in 1991, for SATB Choir or soloists with Organ accompaniment. Pärt's setting of The Beatitudes is one of only a handful of works (Litany and And One of the Pharisees also falling into that category) composed in English.

Included "Sermon on the Mount" c. 1440, Fra Angelico
(1387- 1455), "The Sermon on the Mount" 1481-1482, Cosimo Rosselli 1439- 1507, Sistine Chapel, Vatican City.

The video's final stained glass window is from Saint Paul's Cathedral in St. Paul, Minnesota; the South Rose Window located south in line with Selby Avenue, the work of Charles J. Connick. The theme is from the Beatitudes spoken by jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Christ in the center is surrounded by eight saints of the new world. Clockwise from upper right; Rose of Lima (suffering), Toribio of Mogrovejo (peacemaking), Kateri Tekawitha (purity of heart), Francis Solano (mercy), Francis Xavier Cabrini (hunger and thirst for justice), Peter Claver (mourning), Rose Philippine Duchesne (meekness), and Martin de Porres (poverty of spirit).

  • It begins with the choir, ends with the organ. Like Beethoven's thinking the other way around. Well, we live in the postmodern era. (I love both, this reflection only makes music more understandable for me.)
