On July 24, the Oakland University administration proposed an 11% increase on student tuition, due to an increased proposed budget and decreased expected state funding. After hearing from the administration who proposed the increase, and from some students who urged the board not to increase the tuition, the board decided to move back the decision to July 29 at 2 p.m. in the Elliot Hall auditorium. Some students are expected to protest the proposed increase then. Check facebook.com/oakpost and twitter.com/theoaklandpost for live updates of the meeting.
The budget proposed at the July 24 meeting can be read at www3.oakland.edu/oakland/bot by clicking on "Archived Agendas" on the left-side tab, then "2009 Archived Agendas" and "July 24, 2009" and clicking on the purple "General Fund Budget and Tuition Rates for Fiscal Year 2010". The budget to be proposed at the July 29 meeting will be available shortly.
I Think that it is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that the people who are FOR the proposed increase are using the excuse that we will have to cut other important stuff. HOW ABOUT SELLING THE OAKLAND UNIVERSITY HUMMER AND ALL THOSE STUPID 60" TV'S WITH SCROLLING MESSAGES AROUND THE SCHOOL TO PAY FOR IT!!! What is wrong with people. The only person who made any sense for this proposal was Mr. Pawley.
