why would they want to eat them fucking nasty fish here we kill them their a trash fish we bow shot them them see how many we can kill in a day then put them in the garden
Buying cut carp fillets in packs from the stores does not uphold the tradition. Buying a live carp to keep in the bathtub until Dec 24 would mean killing the carp at home. Those, who cannot stomach the killing, buy it from the carp mongers on Dec 24. As for the humane killing, it is uncertain whether the suppliers to the stores would do it differently. Most people would agree to a swift killing to minimise the suffering to the carps, older generation of the natives may not care for such details
The scene is repeated up and down that country not just Prague. This is a Christmas tradition there and is probably more of festive pagan rather than Christian origin e.g. it is Christmas goat in Portugal, Goose in Germany, Turkey in the US (and UK)... If the debate is about humane slaughtering of carps behind doors, away from public gaze versus in full public view in the streets, then, the tradition is to have a live carp for slaughter on Christmas Day, which is Dec 24 btw in Czech tradition..
So let me get this straight, if one buys carp in the store, it is better because it is already filleted? But doesn't the carp feel it just the same while it is getting filleted inside the store as opposed to having it done on the street?
