Janet Fendos and her class at Forest Home Elementary demonstrate this activity break.

Two students stand back to back until, on a signal, they jump and face each other with a pre-determined number of fingers sticking up. The partners add the numbers of fingers and shout out the answer. Difficulty can be increased by doing multiplication, adding additional hands, etc.

Grade Level: 1-8
Addresses Physical Education Standard 1: "Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities."

Requires no special materials.

This video is shared as part of the Active Schools Initiative, which provides strategies to teachers and students for motivating students to be physically active outside of their physical education classes. http://dpi.wi.gov/sspw/physicaled.html

Video produced in 2010-11 by Milwaukee Public Schools with support from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Thanks to Janet Fendos, Forest Home Elementary, and the students!
