Former military serviceman, company driver and now owner-operator Robert Jacobs of Columbia, S.C., talks about his experience in his new business. He's currently running leased to Greatwide and moving mostly Tyson Foods freight. He bought his Freightliner through the ATBS Leasco program and talks about that program, and more, here.

Jacobs is one of the drivers featured in the September 2009 "How to Become an Owner-Operator" in Truckers News magazine.

  • It's so nice to see a positive owner operator... I get so sick of hearing about how horrible it is from people that are having a bad experience. its nice to see someone with an positive attitude.

  • Thank You very much for this vid im military as well trying to start a trucking business. This positive vid help a great deal.. Keep on trucking Sir

  • This dude kept it 100%. He did what he had to do to make money! He never made up a fake story like most people do like, " I always loved trucks, I love what I do". He's just trying to make a decent living the best way possible!

  • If you are thinking of starting your own trucking company I know how you can get paid on any invoice in 24 hours... Seriously

check it out freightcapital . com

  • @Wgrippin

I agree my father was an o/o for years and a bunch of his friends were too and they just have nothin good at all to say about tuck driving and owning yer own truck but i think thats because they have seen how down hill eveything has gone my father made just as much in the late 70's and throughout the 80's as he did in the 2000's but the prices of everything went through the roof

  • 1 out of 100 that got some success.. I had 5 trucks, never made it. I now make better money as a company driver @ .40 cpm. And a dedicated 3100 miles a week.. leasing a truck from one of the big companies is a sure way to get fucked now days. Think about it they control your miles and your income.. just when you have only a few more payments left to pay on your truck, the freight slows down. No miles-no money-no truck payment- no truck!!

  • Numbers dont lie!! Owner operator buys his tractor&trailer cash 60k drives for one year , after expenses He nets 60k , 100% return on investment.. Good return? Not so fast!! A driver comes in ...invest $0 zero dollars ..works one year ...saves 30k .... Return on investment was... Are you ready? 3 000 000% ..yeah 3 million percent!! Do the math!!

  • im wanting to start my own trucking biz when i get out the military. can you help me

  • Thanx so much for the information
