I used to be a thinker, but now I do not. As he read- 'reality is a thought free state'...but then I had to think of this.

If you read his story you will be amazed. He was meditating even there was termite mounds all around him. He is one of the greatest rishis of the century. And to decode his words to them will take a life time which are more profound.

The mind is not an enemy. It makes a perfect servant but a poor master.

It is a mistake to enter into conflict with the mind.

It is merely a matter (in the beginning) of focussing the attention elsewhere to break the habit of constant focus and re-focus on the mind.

The easiest is to put the attention on the body. Perhaps the breathing.

Question: "In turning the mind inwards, are we not still employing the mind?'

Sri Ramana Maharshi:"Of course we are employing the mind. It is well known and admitted that only with the help of the mind can the mind be killed. But instead setting about saying there is a mind, and I want to kill it, you begin to seek the source of the mind, and you find the mind does not exist at all. The mind, turned outwards, results in thoughts and objects. Turned inwards, it becomes itself the Self."

It is the duality of humanity, the thinker and the feeler or the I and the I-thoughts as Sri Ramana Maharshi puts it. Both are in us already, so CHOOSE who you want to be, at any given moment. it is YOUR DECISION and all else is false.

What you say reminds me of who I am and of the thought sheaves my mind builds up to hide my true self. Thank you Clifford, what you say is like a sharp knife cutting through the differenrt sheathes si that I can see the "I" without peeling off and analysing each of the layers hiding I

I have watched this a couple of times. but i realize that it is true when I don't want to believe it. That is human, in the ego.

yes, thought in and of its 'self' but, we can choose to live in the present moment with non judgement, non attachment and non reaction. we can choose to be present in gratitude and joy. we can work at knowing our own being to deeply that we see our 'self ' in everything and everyone and chose to have compassion. THIS I think, is 'awakening' . to know and to chose.
