Austrian German is the national standard variety of the German language spoken in Austria and in South Tyrol (Italy). Even if you think you speak German you need to learn the special Austrian words.

  • Austrian German is standard German, so many people confuse it with the separate language Austro-Bavarian.

  • @AndreDevecserii Yes, indeed, Austro-Bavarian is in another video of mine. However they use many similar expressions. :-)

  • Aber Grüß Gott und Guten Tag = nicht Good morning lol

  • You are right they are not exactly the same! There are no perfect translations in general. In my dictionary: Guten Tag! = Good morning!; Good afternoon!; Good day!; How are you?; How do you do? / Grüß Gott! = Greetings!; Hello!, Good morning!, etc.
