In August 2012, the Curiosity rover landed on Mars. The landing itself was a huge achievement and required a lot of forethought and planning by a very smart team. In this TED Youth 2012 Talk, Bobak Ferdowsi, the mohawked member of that team, outlines various aspects of a Mars landing, including the Seven Minutes of Terror.
Talk by Bobak Ferdowsi.

If he has American citizenship, then he is an American from Iranian ancestry.
I Have American citizenship, but I have Italian ancestry, but consider myself an American.

Doesn't make you american by todays standards. When people say 'American' they mean people who live in the Unites States of America.
If every canadian suddenly were to refer to themselves as american would just confuse everyone since the term american is already established as name for people living in the USA. If you want to, you can refer to yourself as north-american.

Who cares if he's Iranian at all? Everybody has to come from somewhere. It must be nice to think that life started out as a race known as "white" right in the middle of the United States. But since almost everybody here knows that's not true, we need to accept the fact we all have ancestry from somewhere... and it's probably not the United States.
