A REAL EAS ALERT FROM WBAP: 6/10/09- 3/4

On June 10, 2009, the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metroplex was hit hard when an nasty storm hit the area, causing damaging winds, hail, flooding (mostly from more storms after this storm had hit), and lighting, this storm was a nasty storm and all of the DFW local stations went wall to wall with the weather coverage, and there was reports of tornadoes on the ground in Tarrant, Dallas and Collin counties. I live in Hunt County, but the storm died down right went it was arriving in Hunt County.

Anyway I was listening to the WBAP webstream so I could get the audio from the Emergency Alert System Bulletins from WBAP when they activated the EAS as they (and Citadel owned sister station KSCS) are the primary Emergency Alert System station in the DFW Metroplex Radio Market. I got the audio from the webstream using the latest version (at the time) of Free Sound Recorder, which you can get at Download.com for free. I managed to get four EAS alerts off the webstream so Im posting them here.

In this video, this alert was issued between 5:30 PM-6:30 PM CDT, which the alert was for a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Denton county, Parker county, Tarrant County, & Wise county, which ended at 7:15 PM CDT.

Update on WBAP itself: on March 15, 2010 at 5AM, WBAP started a simulcast on 96.7 FM, with it's calls being KPMZ (the calls were for the old format that it replaced) that remain until the WBAP-FM calls were approved by the FCC on the Friday after, which was March 19th. so for now on, all of the EAS activations will be done by the whole Citadel DFW Cluster which is 820 WBAP-AM, 96.7 WBAP-FM, and 96.3 KSCS-FM.
