Went Turkey hunting in Southern Oregon this weekend. I roosted this bird along with another Tom the night before (Saturday night) so I new what field they were near and where they would be feeding. My dad and I showed up at BCD (butt crack of dawn) and the Turkeys were already gobblin...but still roosted in the trees. We snuck our way up the tree line in cover and I snuck my DSD (Dave Smith Decoy) as far out in to the field as possible without getting busted by the birds. We then set up in cover in the still dark timber. I started calling with my mouth reed and they were gobbling there heads off over top of each other. About 15 minutes of calling to the birds in the tree, and the bigger bird had had enough. He came swooping down into the field about 80 yards in front of us (It was an awesome site and where this video begins). I continued to call because from his angle he couldn't yet see the decoy. He mozeed our way struttin, spittin and gobblin the entire way. He held up and about 50 yards until he locked on to the DSD, at which point it was like he was on a string. Here he came, struttin around the bush that edged him closer to the end of my gun barrel. At about 30 yards, still in view of the video camera my dad was holding, he was dropped in his tracks. He had a 10" beard 7/8" spurs and weighed 20+ pounds (forgot scale). Not to bad for amateurs with a camera and shotgun if I can say so myself.
P.S. You will notice the Tom roosted in the trees gobblin which in turn makes this Tom gobble over him.
Thanks to R.O. , K.C. & R.B.D
