  • Great stuff, can you do a switch kick tutorial?

  • @949surferdude Thanks! I did a video on 'Kicks' and I go into the switch kick at one min into that video. But I'll do another video explaining the switch kick in more detail in the future.

  • i was hoping to see more about the footwork but overall it was good.

  • @tylershaft You're right. Footwork is extremely important and I'll do a separate video on it. Thanks!

  • @matklstrength Buakaw doesn't guard in the manner you described, when he is kicking.

  • @57worldwide

    one word.. buakaw.

  • @matklstrength I don't see people throwing a right when they are kicked with a left. You usually counter punch with the same side as they kick with (right kick - straight right counter). Like when boxing, you are taught to counter a left hook with a left hook.

Even if they lunge forward, they might not reach you, and in Muay Thai it's far more important to gaurd against a kick when you kick. (Have you seen Muay Thai fighters moving their hand to the other side of their face when they strike?)

  • @57worldwide

lol oh yeah i forgot when you kick someone they dont lunge forward, they just through punches without moving..

  • @57worldwide

its actually to protect from a "counter" which could be a kick of a punch but its more likely to be a punch at that distance.

  • @Healterskelter95 The only way you could give an inside kick with your right leg would be if your opponent was standing in a position where neither foot is forward (or if the opponent is standing southpaw). If you are orthodox and they are southpaw (or vice versa), the inside kick would be a power kick, whereas the kick demonstrated in this video is not.

  • @matklstrength The reason you have your right hand guarding that side is in case of a kick and not a punch.

  • you should really bring the right hand across your face not to the side, because he wont counter with a left but will with a cross so you're wide open.
