I agree that torturing is incredibly distasteful and, well, horrendous, but I disagree that this was a mistake for the episode. The point was that he was a horrible person in hell and torturing someone again would make him a horrible person again. Despite the fact that the hero was torturing people, the episode always regarded torture as negative, even going to the point of saying that God would not allow the means to justify the ends, and that he wouldn't want Dean to torture Alistair.

i am more shock about torturing, even to a demon. Not thinking religiously, just judging A HUMAN ACTION, the lowest human behaviour (even worse than killing) is being able to cause extreme pain continuously to someone (evil or not) that is helpless. Maybe i am more shock (honestly the idea of someone torturing, makes me vomit) , because i am from a country where torturing was used to repress people. I think the writers made a mistake when they decided dean should be a torturer.
