  • It was around Illinois, not the country. 7 debates, one for each of the states' congressional districts at the time, minus Springfield and Chicago. Lincoln had already given a speech in Springfield and Douglas in Chicago, so those two were excluded from the circuit. This thing is misinformed.

  • the congress of the United States shall never have the power to interfear with state instutiutions including that of slavery.  U.S. Congress March 2 1861.

    The South rejected this offer. So it seems that the Inited States thought no more of the Negro than the Souith did.
