Giovanni Giudice, world famous Venetian gondolier, takes David Conroy, The Lone Drainer and Pronto to the workshop of the "Remeri" (oarmaker), Paolo Brandolisio.
Paolo, the oar maker of choice for the gondoliers of Venice is a member of "el felze", the association of arts and crafts contributing to the construction of gondolas.
He custom builds and repairs the oars to suit each of the gondoliers.
Paolo also makes the forcola.
The oar and the forcola are the two elements on which the dynamic balance of the gondola is centred.
The forcola is the rowlock for the gondoliers oar and a critical part in the working of the gondola.
It is the fulcrum of the movements with which the gondolier gives propulsion to the boat and at the same time keeps it in equilibrium.
