  • What a shame he's not Country Music Hall of Fame.... Johnny Paycheck is what country music is all about. R.I.P Johnny..You have a lot of fans who still loves to hear you sing! I know I do @}}----

  • Johnny Was one of countrys outlaws . Yes he was so underrated .

    R.I.P. Johnny . I still listen to you .

  • Johnny Paycheck is so underrated... He stands right up thier with the GREATS of Country Music. His name should be right up thier with George Jones, Johnny Cash, Waylon, Willie, but he is rarely mentioned in the same breath. He is a true legend, and a soulful singer. The man wasn't even a member of the Opry until 1997, and he's STILL not a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. If you read this comment, & feel the same way- Go sign the Johnny Paycheck CMHOF petition circulating the internet

  • @pitol678 Yes, Pete Drake on pedal steel did the george Jones "I am what I am" album ......as soon as I saw the song list I remembered the steel sound unmistakably the Pete Drake sound.

  • @pitol678 Hi again , The 1980 George Jones " I am what I am " album was on epic records and the producer was Billy Sherill ....He used Pete Drake on pedal steel on ALL of his sessions so if you see an epic label release with Sherill as producer its Pete Drake on steel.

Pete did Charley Rich's stuff and paycheck stuff when with Epic . Pete Drake died in july 1988, he was ill in his last years and did less recording but I would say it was him but Ill check up to make sure.

  • @pedalman hey thanks for the info! You sound very knowledgeable so I have another question if I may. Do you know who played steel on George Jones' "I am what I am?" Ive looked but cant seem to find it. Great playing on that record-just beautiful.

  • Ive posted here recently but I just had to come back to say , dont we all just love good, true, from the heart, real country music that makes you emotional when you listen to it, joy tears in the eyes with a hint of sadness knowing we will never see or hear their like again.

    Alan , England. UK.

  • @CajunTroubadours Yeah, not on the hall of fame ....what a travesty ! What you have to remember about the Nashville mentality is it was very holyer than thou', if you were a "bad boy" in their eyes you had no chance.

Look at George and Tammy .....they never won the CMA award for best country duet !!! but they couldnt find a good enough excuse to omit George from the hall of fame 'cos he is a legend .

Johnny should be placed in the hall of fame posthumously and immediately .
