On December 20, 2007, the Kansas Humane Society and the City of Wichita broke ground for the new Murfin Animal Care Campus.
The future site is a 20-acre parcel of land in northeast Wichita, near Hillside and K-96 Highway and includes new buildings for KHS and Wichita Animal Shelter plus 2.7 acres of dog parks.
The Kansas Humane Society has raised $8.8 million in private donations for the new 40,000 square foot facility.
The City of Wichita's $6 million facility is funded through public dollars and will be 26,060 square feet.
Construction on the campus is expected to take 12 to 18 months with the new facility opening to the public in early 2009.
Long live the Humaine society. My gf, volunteers there.
