鍾梅音女士是中國早期著名的文學家，代表著作有「海天遊蹤」、「昨日在湄江」、「冷泉心影」、「夢與希望」、「啼笑人間」等。
一九五七年鍾梅音女士將《遺忘》這首詞寄予黃友棣老師，希望他能為其譜曲。黃老師以詩中聲聲遺忘，但終究無法忘懷的矛盾情感作為依據，創作「終夜繞著我徜徉」的旋律動機貫­穿全曲，暗示想忘實則無法遺忘的情感。

又怎載得起如許沈重憂傷
人說愛情故事 值得終生想念
但是我呀 只想把它遺忘

隔岸的野火在燒 冷風裡樹枝在搖
我終夜躑躅堤上 只為追尋遺忘
但是你呀 卻似天上的星光 終夜繞著我徜徉

隔岸的野火已滅 夜風裡蟲聲四起
露濕苔痕 星月將沈
誰能將浮雲化作雙翼 載我向遺忘的宮殿飛去

有時我恨這顆心是活 是會跳躍 是會痛苦
但我又怕遺忘的宮殿喲 就連痛苦亦付缺如
迎接這痛苦吧
生命如像一瓢清水 我寧飲下這盞苦杯
阿但是
若我不能遺忘 這纖小軀體

據黃友隸老師告知，當初作詞者鍾梅音委託黃師寫曲時黃師將詞放在­抽屜年餘，不知何譜曲，因黃師生活正常對這些類的感情不知如何表­達，後來經作詞者告知，因她愛上一位有婦之夫的醫生，因不忍破壞­情人的家庭，自己又不勘痛苦，正是詩云：也想不相思，以免相思苦­，幾度細思量，寧願相思苦。黃師了解這段緣由後，遺忘，這首曲子­就出爐了。記者感嘆，作曲家若生活正常，如何有好作品呢？ 記念黃師，特在此，為此曲依黃師所述為之記載，祝黃師承願再來。­洛杉磯千之風電視台_李茂玄。

con't: Wild fire ends, night insects buzz, dew drops cover moss, moon and stars about to fade. Who can turn clouds into wings and fly me to the Palace of Forgetting? Sometimes I hate this beating, aching heart, but I can't stand the void of the Palace of Forgetting. Let's embrace the pain! If life flows like water, then let me drink this bitter cup. But, if I can't forget, how can I carry such heavy load in this fragile body? They say a love story lasts forever, but I just want to forget. !

"Oblivion," or "To Forget" was written by Hwang Yau-tai in 1970 with lyrics by Chung Mei-yin. Forget! Forget! If I can't forget, how can I carry such heavy load in this fragile body? They say a love story lasts forever, but I just want to forget. Forget! Forget! Wild fire burns on the far shore, branches sway in cold wind, all night I wander on the river bank, trying to forget. But you, like the stars above, follow me thru the night, follow me thru the night, follow me thru the night.
