IT was a night held to celebrate the life of murdered Gold Coast singer Tony Williams, but the message from his closest friends was clear: Just find out who killed him.

Last night hundreds of Mr Williams' family and friends gathered at Broadbeach nightclub East to pay tribute to the slain member of popular Coast band, Sex n' Chocolate.

Mr Williams, a well-known womaniser, was found beaten to death in his Mermaid Waters home on Christmas eve. Police have not been able to find a motive or a weapon.

The man who discovered Mr Williams, a-loband member and 'brother', Kevin Keepa, was emotional as he remembered his best mate, pleading for anyone with information to come forward.

"Tony was a great father, a great friend and a great personality on the Gold Coast. He was a great family man - a great man altogether," Mr Keepa said.

"We want to thank the police for all the effort they're putting in. All I hope is that the person or people that killed Tony will be brought to justice.

"Just find who did this, that's all we want. Just find them."

Fellow bandmate, Paul Thompson, said Mr Williams was charming, honest and trustworthy, which made his murder baffling.

He said those close to Mr Williams had been overwhelmed by the level of support shown by the Coast community.

"He had one hell of an aura -- he'd stop a room," Mr Thompson said.

"He was charming, but that goes with the territory. If I was a girl I would have wanted to marry him."

Members of the Coast's Maori, music and surfing communities attended the tribute, as did Mr Williams' ex-partner Shardai Kerr, with money raised placed in a fund for his children, Harlem and Lyric.

Coast starlet Ricki-Lee Coulter, a friend of Mr Williams', tweeted about the event during the day, but was unable to attend.

On Tuesday police revealed they believed a 'loved one' of Mr Williams knew how and why he was killed.

"It is the feeling of the investigating officers that there is a loved one or a person who has a suspicion, or a knowledge, of who may have committed this offence," Detective Inspector Brian Swan said.

Anyone with information can Call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
