Amazing 12-String Guitar High Shutter Speed Video. Mike Salovich: 12-string. Marcus Wise: tabla. Mike Salovich plays a super large baritone 12-string in front of a high shutter speed HD camera to capture amazing guitar string oscillations, in which he appears to be gripping a handful of vibrating steel. The video also captures tabla and bayan ripple vibrations, performed by Marcus Wise. This the title track from the "The Return Message" guitar worldbeat music CD, described by Scott Herold of Rock The Cause "a transcendental musical journey of love and self expression." This song and CD is available on iTunes and Amazon and directly from http://mikesalovich.com. Available from iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/the-...

What camera settings did you use to capture this? I'd like to give it a go.

I don't have the Canon 7d camera right now to look - but it was straightforward if you have the right camera. We simply pushed the shutter speed to an extremely high number - it was so high that normal light wasn't bright enough, even with a 50mm lens. We had to use extremely bright light to illuminate the guitar so that it wasn't dark with the high shutter speed.

By the way, dadgadjohn, I love your stuff. I'm just getting started watching the videos. For some strange reason I never have played in dadgad. It's beautiful. Thank you for the music.

I had ergonomic problems at first. My hand would cramp and I had to play the baritone with a capo on the 2nd fret. Leaning to the left while playing helps position my hand for F, F#, B bar chords. Light gauge tuned one whole note down sound good. Medium gauge tuned two notes down (Leo Kottke) sounds great but too difficult to play. The best, which I discovered recently, is medium gauge tuned three notes down: sounds incredibly awesome with a deep authoritative bass! That's my new favorite.

Andy, your video and another video of a bass player inspired me to do this. Thank you very much for the discovery, fun and inspiration. I have more videos coming too!

Gorgeous! Reminds me a bit of the Incredible String Band :)

Always nice to see a 12-string played properly!
