The region of Eshpoule Baba is just about an hour away from Kabul. The remote villages can barely keep up with the speedy progress which has been going on in some parts of the country. Because of long-standing drought not even the agriculture can guarantee the subsistence of the families.
Just a minimum of education would offer the children and their parents new perspectives for a better future. Fortunate circumstances and private initiatives have finally helped them to make their dream come true. Within 3 months the men from the village council built their very own school building. They were supported by an Afghan civil engineer and a German architect.
The school accommodates 120 pupils from the surrounding villages. It is attended by both boys and girls -- a special privilege. Naturally boys and girls are taught separately. The children learn how to read, write and calculate.
"Nau Bahar" -- new spring -- is the name of the new school. A name that inspires hope. It signifies the desire for an better future.
