For years, countries dependent on oil have been searching for a viable alternative to petrol. As one of the world's biggest oil producers, Russia has stayed on the sidelines until now, but soaring gasoline prices have prompted companies in Russia to look at biofuel as an option.

At the moment because of trade barriers on Russia, Russian farmers are suffering because they are unable to sell enough corn and wheat because the demand is way smaller than production. If there will be open trade then there is enough arable land to feed people and produce bio fuel.

true. plus, it nonsensical to divert food to feed cars. cellulose ethanol is just as good, but for whatever reason, they want to divert the food, the actual corn kernel from the people. Brazil has been making cellulose ethanol for decades already. This is Bush's sick plan to kill people, to take away the food the Creator gives to them. Down with tyrrants!

A giant load of horse manure! This is capitalism at its worst. Narrow minded conceptualizations like this are dangerous and only divert needed resources and technology from sustainable approaches focusing on wind, solar, geothermal, etc. I hope Russians don't get as manipulated as the Americans, with their penchant for owning huge and waste full SUVs. the agricultural practices here are probably ecologically detrimental. the main focus should be on attaining greater efficiency in what we make.
