Soo Good!!

I always figured Holmes kept the stone. He would have had plenty of money by that time (his remuneration from the Scandal in Bohemia/Irene Adler affair was quite large) and would have been able to pay the thousand-pound reward to commissionaire Peterson, who wouldn't have said anything to the authorities.
James Ryder was probably correct in that the case against Horner would break down for lack of evidence, and Holmes/Watson may have convinced the police to let Horner go for Christmas Day.

When Jeremy died so did Holmes. No one can touch him as Sherlock. He is just as Conan Doyle described Holmes in the books.

I think you have to read between the lines here. SH says he is going to keep the stone in his 'museum,' but I think that was only to keep it safe.
Obviously he did NOT keep the stone, otherwise the commssionare who found the stone in the goose would not get the thousand lb. reward, and the man arrested for the crime wouldn't be released, as he was at the end of the story. Sherlock didn't keep the jewel.
My question was always how he returned the stone without anyone being jailed!

Jeremy is superb in this episode. The last take is my favourite of all the series.

Why, in this adaptation, does Holmes keep the stolen loot for himself? That is downright felonious behaviour. What possible justification can there be for this gross distortion of the original?

Superb, really enjoyed that, thanks.
