The goal of this Video Project is to bring to light the presence of positive, constructive and conscious ideals and messages within the world of Rap and Hip Hop, and to promote this movement via the Web. The concept is to post the completed Video on an Artist Home Page available to the German public to raise awareness and spread knowledge and inspiration. Taped interviews with prominent Artists in the Hip Hop Community, both past pioneers and present innovators, will detail the conscious realm possible within the music versus the angry and aggressive, and how one can bring a message of peace, harmony and hope to the masses through music and rhyme as opposed to violence and destruction. The focus of the piece will be to show how these Artists have overcome the ever-growing trend towards negativity in Hip Hop and held steadfast to their positive beliefs and ideals while maintaining great success and influence. Another important aspect to bring to the surface will be the evolution of Hip Hop from the early days and to discover what societal factors have led to the rising force of so called Gangsta Rap, as well as the impact this is having on the community of listeners. Possible interviews with Hip Hop fans in New York City and Germany will express the publics unbiased view on the matter, and hope to reveal what drives the popularity of both the positive and negative aspects of Hip Hop. Raw footage may always be interlaid of national and world events which may have influenced or have been influenced by aggressive Rap, giving further push towards a darker structure. Racial tensions and violence would be one example, such as the Rodney King incident in Los Angeles in 1991. Artist comments on these highlighted events will further the discussion and reach towards potential solutions to the problem. Might a more prominent presence of conscious constructive messages in Rap and Hip Hop help ease the violence and tensions throughout the world and bring it closer to unity and peace?
