Here's the last of four videos of my high school's indoor percussion shows. This was from 2008 (Senior year) and the show was entitled "The Winning Hand." This show is basically an exercise in musical puns and an attempt to beat the judges over the head with blatant themes because we've had trouble in the past with judges understanding our themes.

The other thing that's special about this video is that I overdubbed all the bass parts. Since I was placed pretty far back on the floor, and the fact that it was a big arena, the bass got drowned in gallons of reverb. Ewwww.

This was our best year and we got 1st place at the RMPA state competition.

The music is all original. Sadly, there's no Lady Gaga. Sorry folks.

The 2008 Monarch Drumline Is:

-Snare: Connor Breitbach, Eric Jacobson, Nick Layne, Anna Vavra
-Tenors: Annelise Lowe, Travis Moberg, Stuart Simpson
-Basses: Rochelle Bergen, Joe Hittle, Aaron Moberg, Jason Renbarger, Zack Weiner
-Cymbals: Eric Fischer, Kate Haggard, Alex Kolber, Espen Roth
-Front Ensemble: Greg Davies, Tony Dickinson, Ben Gazaway, Brian Hagerty, Ryan Higgns, Kari Kron, Alex Launer, Kyle O'Connell, Adam Parker, Eric Robertson

  • y did they put u were no one could see u they should have put u up front

  • @TonyDickinsonBG Man that sucks. I'm in marching band. I play bass. We also have a drummer. We get some pretty awesome parts in there.

I just gotta say. I saw your video from when you were a freshman. I wish I could play like that. :P (Well, I wish i could play like you in general)

  • cool video really impressive and this was uploaded on my birthday =D

  • sounded a little like the bass solo from metropolis.

  • nice bass feature at 4:45

  • @Inimitablessj Hahahahahahah. You hit the nail on the head. Yeah, it's indoor percussion and it's not really my gig, but at least it wasn't Marching Band, which was whole note, after whole note, after whole note...

    ...after whole note...

Tbh, I was totally under-appreciated in that ensemble, because I was always the one member that the rest of the pit listened to to make sure the timing was right with the battery. Worst part is I even arranged part of 2007's show and didn't get credit! BAH!

  • @Melermometal I am familiar enough with the Prince. I was more commenting on how the bass was underplayed in the entirety of these 4 recent videos (although that is not unexpected considering it's indoor percussion).

  • If you only know him as 'bassist', then you are obviously pretty unfamiliar with Tony's work.
