@saagua1953 I love Ponselle's art, and I think that she is already a great Puccini soprano by virtue of her few recordings of Puccini's music. But I wouldn't characterize the likes of Maria Jeritza and Lucrezia Bori as inferior!

The pity was that the Met never let her sing Puccini roles. They "belonged" to an inferior soprano. So she sang Tosca, La Boheme or Madam Butterfly arias only on records. Such a tragic loss.
