I thought it would we interesting to write a piece of music to an already iconic film scene to show how versatile image vs. music is.

In the first half of the clip, the original piece of music was used. The beautiful piece of music, named 'A Rose' was written by composer Thomas Newman for the film.

The second half of the clip is a piece of music I wrote for the scene. I wanted it to convey a darker, eerier, more dream-like quality in comparison to the original (which in my opinion is absolutely genius and perfect in itself).

*Note: Does NOT include the original monologue from the film

  • Thanks guys!

  • You could argue that his sudden fascination with a schoolgirl his daughters age, leaves room for darkness and eerieness...which was my approach.

It's a matter of opinion and interpretation, I suppose. There's no right or wrong answer.

  • I'm not sold.

  • I don't see this scene as being dark. It's about desire and beauty, not perversion. So I prefer A Rose but your piece is very well written and composed. I just don't think it sits right with what's on the screen.

  • your music gives the scene more of a mysterious type of atmosphere but the first gives just the right tone and feel and its great but yours was very well done

  • His face expresses kid's ilusion not darkness, your music piece is nice, but I always think that Arose it's the perfect piece for this scene, however, nice job mate ;)

  • Wow! Wonderful!

  • what a scene *_____*

  • I like both soundtracks, but I feel the first track better matches the basic feeling of the scene. The scene isn't supposed to be dark, more just curious. The movie has dark undertones, but exactly an obvious darkness. It's more...mind bending. You know?

  • @iwannabemade1 And that's why you'll never understand good cinema.

  • wow thats a very powerful difference in feeling, fantastic job, I think it meshes well with how blood red this scene can be, instead of 'rose' red
