Track #9 from my 2009 indie music alubm, "Garden Variety". A personal song about my walk with God, this is basically a re-write of the first decent song I wrote as a kid. I might put up an ancient recording of the original version later on if there's any interest, barely-pubescent voice and all... It's kind of cool to see how the song has changed and how it's stayed the same.
Interestingly enough I wrote this version of the song when I had given up on God and had nothing to believe in but the hopelessness I'd feel at the end of the day and the hopelessness I was going to feel tomorrow. The song is a prayer for forgiveness when I desperately needed a purpose in life, and it's since been answered and I hope that can be a meaningful testimony to some listeners out there.

*LYRICS*

I know that I am as imperfect as they come so I
Humbly ask forgiveness for all the stupid things I've done
I miss the innocence that I had as a kid and I regret
Turning my back, learning to do all the wrongs I did

CHORUS:
I know I'm flawed,
But I'm hoping I can change for the better
If I retrieve faith, maybe let go
Of some disgrace
I know I've always been flawed,
But I think we'd all be more at peace if we knew God
I don't know what else to say... I wish that I'd never strayed
You saved me once, could you do it again?

Well a purpose-driven life sure appeals and looks worth trying to renew
I've been digging fruitlessly on my own for inner strength to pull me through
Through the storms of this world and the world below
I want to follow you out of the mess of the path I chose
Well, once upon a time you were the dawnlight on my good eye
But to keep my head rooted on Earth was the goal I had in mind
And I kept company with anger and despair and left the greatest gift behind
But I'm inching my way back to believing I can live a fuller life

CHORUS
