All cats cough up furballs, from your domestic cat at home to an African Lion on the savannah. They do this to protect themselves as the furballs may also contain bone fragments from whole prey and can cause blockages in their digestive system.
Watch as Zza Zza one of our Ocelots shows us how it is done!
Big Cat Rescue is a sanctuary for exotic cats like Lions, Tigers, Leopards, Bobcats, Lynx, Servals and Ocelots.

  • I have a bulimic cat. She eats, throws up, eats again.

Whenever she starts making hacking sounds, half a dozen cats rush to her side, ready to devour the warm meal she's about to serve.

Sorry. Just felt I had to share that. (;^)

  • Nice, like a furry, purring microwave :)

  • That has to be unpleasant for them, My cat has them all the time and it looks painful.

  • Yeah it can't feel good really, but they must get used to the process of coughin' up the stuff they don't want in their system.

  • it looked like it was humping the ground. it looked funny

  • I know you can't help but laugh!

  • thumbs up if you found out what a ocelot was after seeing mediatakeout saying drake bought one

  • The epic music was very necessary.

  • Your pretty go...COUGH* oh sorry snake hang on one sec hair ball COUGH*

  • none of our cats EVER get furballs :D 1 is complete siamese and the mother of the other 2, one is pursian and siamese, and the other is just a ally cat with siamese...

  • @CattyCatRanch One of my cats does the same thing. She'll eat and throw it up almost right away. Only it's our dog that rushes over for the pre-chewed/digested meal rather than our other cat.

Oddly enough, the cat that eats and then throws up is the heavier of the two (but not overweight). The one that demands food all the time (and doesn't shut up until she's fed) is incredibly bony (not anorexia bony, just very light and thin compared to our other cat) but the vet hasn't found anything wrong.

  • Cats also eat grass to aid in the process. Helps them cack up the bad stuff.

  • I've had the misfortune of stepping in my cats hairballs while walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night -.- i can't imagine how big a mess that is....Uber hairballs. ick

  • @BigCatRescue

I laughed so hard at that comment XD

  • i worry about it choking them while they are trying to cough it up
