The tragic "Stardust Fire" happened on 14 February 1981 during a Valentine's Day ball in the Dublin neighborhood of Artane. 48 local kids died and over 100 were severely injured.
Shortly after the "Ordinary Man" album release in 1985, Moore was found guilty of contempt of court and "They Never Came Home" was banned in protection of the Butterly family, owners of the "Stardust" venue.

  • Such a great song and such a sad story ,My thoughts are with the families :(

  • sorry 48

  • God Bless the 47

  • WOW! I'm an American and a big fan of Christy Moore but I never heard this song or this sad story. When did a person's life become so cheap? When did people stop caring? When did profit rule over all? Was there not a time when we were better than THIS?

  • Long before the Artane fire. Hundreds of young boys were sent to Artane for petty misdemeanours They were victims of the justice system. Their lives were ruined and they carried a criminal record for the rest of their lives; but the band played on and the Preds smiled.

Remember those boys when you grieve.Fire exits chained! thats an oxymoron if ever I heard one

  • still hard to belilive nobody from the buttlery family went to jail over this what a bunch of pricks and look at them now swaning around in their big cars and houses like nothing happened they should be ashamed but money and wealth must mean more to them

  • Such a sad day, may they rest in peace

  • Tease children who lost their lives will never be forgotten

  • RIP lads <3 Youre sadly missed but atleast your safe and happy now where ever you are :D God Bless all of you <3 Thanks Christy xxx

  • god bless all the people since, now, and still will be affected by this tragedy forever,

No 'health and safety' shit then, still should never have happened regardless,

the so called 'people/things' responsible have never been brought to justice for their accountability, sickening, but i believe god will judge them :) god bless
