A very interesting project indeed.

We know quite a lot about the Victorian era from various historical sources, but what do we know about "everyday life" of the people of that time? Almost nothing. But this project is full of interesting details of Victorian people's life.

Historical observational documentary series following a team who live the life of Victorian farmers for a year. Wearing period clothes and using only the materials that would have been available in 1885, historian Ruth Goodman and archaeologists Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn are going back in time to relive the day-to-day life of the Victorian farmer.

The project is based on the Acton Scott estate in Shropshire - a world frozen in time, lost in Victorian rural England. Its buildings and grounds are cluttered with antique tools and machinery collected by the Acton family who have lived on the estate since the 12th century.

Working for a full calendar year, Ruth, Alex and Peter are rediscovering a lost world of skills, crafts and knowledge assisted by an ever-dwindling band of experts who keep Victorian rural practices alive.

  • Ruth Goodman yummy !

  • What is the tune called at 0.01 onwards called?

  • I just thought of doing my bit to help out and inform my fellow Victorian Farm devotees that Alex, Ruth and Peter will be doing something very similar but in the Edwardian era (hence the name Edwardian Farm)and its going to play tonight, 10th Nov on BBC 2...for the Americans, I feel for you, you may have to wait a while. I am so excited...I know I'm a nerd, I'm 17 and I envy them for their jobs. I wouldn't mind banishing my a-levels and all modern technology for a year to experience this.

  • would be nice if you could have this be a series of 12 epics

  • i'm watching this show last episode tonight I love it. really good. I missed I think 2 episodes but I hope to see them. I think the food is the hardest for me to accept

  • Any idea when, I was watching on iplayer but I only got up to Spring and they disappeared. Was really enjoying it although had a real laugh at her attempts to use a treadle sewing machine, I'm only in my 40's and that's what I learned to sew on. Mum grew up on the farms of Kent and her singer treadle machine was her pride and joy, Dad converted it to electric a few years ago when her back became too painful to continue treadling.

  • its being played on TVO on Monday nights in Ontario

  • its being repeated on bbc2 soon.
