The technologies to replace oil already exist, have for a long time. Mining leases run for 99 yrs at a time, ensuring their stakeholders futures'. What we need to do is get with our neighbours and pool some funds to get solar up and running. I'm sure solar companies would gladly welcome the extra business, and by doing out a few streets or more at time, it would save everyone a few $s. There are plenty of skilled older folk out there only too willing to teach us youngens a thing or two aboutstuff

Very well done! don't be fooled into giving up such a precious place for a bit more dead end fuel

As opposed to grain based fuels that drive up the cost of food? We do not eat oil.
We could use fickle solar energy, area-dependent water/air energy, or potentially toxic nuclear energy. Oil is a natural waste product created by pressure, heat, and time on dead matter. It has no benefit for the environmental cycle. We should research other solutions. But in the mean time, using up the planets waste product makes sense. As much sense as breathing the waste product of plants: Oxygen.

Interesting how the establishment suddenly pushes global warming to get us to adapt to peak oil - if the establishment really cared about global warming, they wouldn't be trying so hard to find and burn more oil.
