Song: "Hoireann O"
Artist: Capercaillie
Album: Nadurra
Year: 2000

English Translation:
Early I arose
I went out by the glen of branches
I came back by the glen of flocks
I found a brown hair girl still in bed
I folded her in my own plaid
And vowed that she need fear no harm
That i would give her to her own mother
Til we were married by clergy
One night as I was (sailing) north of Ireland
Masts bending, sails tearing
How distressed I was, my love
But if I come back from Ireland
What presents you will get:
A gown of silk, a cloak to match it
And a gold ring in which you can see your reflection
Although I don't own many cattle
We will not worry about the scarcity of food
I'd get deer from the high tops
Trout from the waters of Sleat
You need not envy any other woman

  • AJMusicgirl, do you know where I can get the original lyrics to this? The only lyrics I seem to be able to find are translated into English. I am good with pronouncing things by ear, but I would really like to be sure. Can you help me?

  • @CatBATd4rklycu73 I can see if the booklet has the orginal lyrics, but I don't think it does. I'll get back to you.
