Some people say that Freni isn´t the ¨perfect¨ Butterfly, well they can all fuck off!
She has the voice of a goddess!! and so she is a great interpreter!
I´ve heard many voices that are told to be the right voice for the role but they dont have the sharp notes Freni has!

freni would have been the best butterfly if she would have sung it onstage.. there is only one recording from the met live of the last act.. she wouldn't sing it onstage normally becase it was too taxking for the voice..

@LaCarusiella Thank you very much for the lovely letter. I am really smiling and remembering my late mom. Bless you!

@molarmama5 haha that's hilarious, my brother who's a blues musician would play pop music when I was in mother's belly to turn me into a musician and I turned out to be an opera singer!!

@LMBS7 No, A Great Butterfly!

@MademoiselleGore My Mother wanted me to be a opera singer to the point when she was pregnant with me in 1952, she would play opera records, to influence her baby , not knowing if I was was Boy or girl. Well, I cannot sing but have a great sense of music and dance. If I could SING ONE HALF As WEll as Freni. My mother would really be happy, in heaven. M. Freni you sing like a goddess!

Yes, she is Verónica Villarroel in the production of the opera San Francisco for Butterfly ...

renata tebaldi is the best!

one of my favorite things in this recording is that as she is trying to read the name of the ship you can almost hear her hands shaking - and then her absolute abandon with no hint of strain on all the high notes... one understands why Von Karjan wanted to hear her sing the role of Tourandot rather than Lui

her voice is perfect. her sweetness is able to touch the soul of us listeners, expecially in the climax of desperation, when she sings to her child "va, giuoca, giuca". touchable desperation. total.
Is that Verónica Villarroel in the picture? Beautiful Cio-Cio San.
