MobileBurn.com - Facebook has released a new stand-alone messaging app for the iPhone and Android smartphones that marries its Facebook Messaging service with the group messaging app Beluga that the social network purchased earlier this year. Called Messenger, the new app allows you to quickly and easily access your Facebook messages and chats, and start new single or group chats with both your Facebook friends and those in your phone's contact list. The app has location based features as well as innovative image sending options that let you pick a photo from your phone's gallery, or use Bing Image search to insert an image from the web. The new Facebook Messenger app is free and available in the iTunes App Store and Android Market now. More info: http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=16146

  • @sicario1209 android market for your android phone...

  • How do you get that app from?

  • does the app support push notifications? if i install the app on my android, does it show me on facebook chat as always online or only while the app is open?

  • Sick intro!

  • Hey mobileburn, at 3:33 I saw you have "Alerts Off" function. I recently downloaded this app from the Android Market but it seems like they removed this 4th option.... So what to do if I want to turn off alerts permanently and dont want to repeat turning it off every 8:00 AM?

  • i'm sorry but theres no reason why we need this when basically theres chat and messaging already on the facebook app itself. only one problem. NON OF IT WORKS EITHER ON IPHONE OR ANDRIOD ANYMORE!!!!

  • There's no real difference between this and other apps like Whatsapp - the only difference is that you get to see all your FB friends as the contact list rather than your contact list you have in your phone.

You still need 3G/Wi-Fi to work this and why release this when you can do the same thing within the Facebook app itself?

    I don't understand.
