Step back to the late 1990s and climb aboard one of BC Rails brutish C40-8 diesels for a fantastic cab ride from sea level at Squamish up through the rugged coastal mountain range to the big sky country at Lilooet. Youll see the line from the crews vantage points and witness the challenge of operating trains over this awesome stretch of railroad.

Venerable Budd cars, the icons of BC Rails passenger operation, are exquisitely highlighted as they work up the line. The last Alco powered RS-18 is captured as it switches cars at Squamish. Helper service is shown in detail as we ride an assisted freight up steep mountain grades. Rebuilt Cat-powered diesels are seen toiling at the large yard in North Vancouver. Youll see the school train that provides children with a unique form of transportation to and from class. Even more action is waiting to be enjoyed in this insightful look at BC Rail operations and the gorgeous British Columbia scenes that enrich the footage taken from the cab. Hop on board for the ride of your life as we travel from sea to sky on BC Rail!

  • Looks good. Definately an addition to my video collection.

I'm an engineer on the Squamish Sub and yes much has changed indeed, the RDC's are gone, the SD40-2's are gone, the Dash 8's are giving way to CN ES44DC's and SD70M-2's(I had one of each coming home from Lillooet today, a CN GEVO, a Dash 8 and a BCR Dash 9). The Pemberton Pushers are gone, and the school train is gone. One freight train a day each way between Squamish and Prince George and a switcher job that runs south of Squamish.

  • That school train at 1:48 looks awesome!!!! I sure would like to ride a train to and from school!!!!

  • R.I.P. BC Rail !

    Fuck you Gordon Campbell !!

You sold out your people and your province !!

    Rot in hell !

  • Very nice! Had never heard of the School Train before this!

  • I visited the railway last summer and indeed not much BCR was left. SD's GP's GE's fom CN to WC. Maybe some railfan would be happy to see an old (put pimped) SD40 on a train in lead position but the bitter truth is it's a sad thing.

Will they kill the the Sqamish link to Vancouver for Olympic games? I wonder how they will add just a single lane to Hwy at Porteau?

  • kinda strange to see a DPU only a few cars back from the lead....they had some crazy tactics for those grades!

    R.I.P

  • You complain too much. Be lucky they went there in the first place!

  • I'm definitely going to pick up a copy of this one. I don't think I can ever get enough of BC Rail.

  • school train!!!!!!!!!!!!!awesome

  • cool , wow only 1 train a day

  • YAH ME TOO

  • Railfanning must suck up there now since CN purchased it. BC Rail knew how to run a railroad. I'm sure they had 10 freights a day back in 1993-2004.
