Aaron Copland 1900-1990 El salon Mexico (arranged for piano solo by Leonard Bernstein) recorded at St John's, Smith Square , London, 20 March 1989 [Live]
Wow! I was there! I remember the surprise after Mozart & Ravel...whatever was coming next? I'm mostly not a great fan of Copland's music and this turned out to be the first and only time i've enjoyed this piece. With his sense of timing, colors and above all, wit, Cherkrackers gave us a unique feast, sending all away,(after customary eccentric encores),with a smile. Of course his spontaneous style and humor are hard to catch on record, but this stirs wonderful memories.Thank you.
